Silkstone Tramway — 10.00 a.m.
The walk follows the route of the Silkstone Tramway which was built to carry coal from local mines to the Barnsley Canal at Barnby Basin. This is an easy walk of just over 3 miles but there are many historical features to look at alone the way.
We will meet at 10 a.m. at Moorend Lane, Silkstone Common S75 4QZ (OS sheet 110: SE294042 - map attached ). Park on the road between South Yorkshire Buildings and the railway bridge, facing uphill if possible. Some car shuffling will be necessary so please let us know how many people will be in your car.
Lunch will be at the Crown & Anchor at Baraugh Green. The online menu can be perused now but a more comprehensive menu will be sent out nearer the time. They have requested that we pre-order.
Most of the walk is on good paths but there is some field walking and the woods will be muddy so good footwear is recommended.
Please let us know during the previous week if you'll be joining us, with your menu choice.
